Season Recap: 2025-2026 Budget Plan Review

As we move into the warmer months, many homeowners are taking a break from thinking about heating fuel. But for those of us who follow the energy markets closely, the end of the heating season is a great opportunity to reflect on what happened, why prices moved the way they did, and what customers can expect moving forward.

The 2025-2026 heating season was a unique one, and highlighted why choosing a price protection program is a smart choice.

There was tons of uncertainty where prices moved unexpectedly due to world events or changing economic forecasts, however customers enrolled in price protection plans were able to enjoy peace of mind knowing that they had protection against significant market increases. Instead of worrying about daily market headlines, they could focus on keeping their homes comfortable all winter long.

Price protection plans are not designed to predict the market perfectly. Rather, they provide stability and help families avoid the financial stress that can come with sudden price spikes during the coldest months of the year.

Budget Plan Review

Paying monthly is a lot easier than paying as you receive deliveries. It allows you to make smaller monthly payments instead of paying all at once when you receive a delivery.

Here's a graph with an example of a customer in Biddeford who took advantage of our Budget Plus Plan this past year. They paid a steady $186 per month throughout the plan, instead of paying per delivery. You can also see the majority of their fuel costs happened in a short window between November-February , so it was beneficial for them to spread these costs out.

The blue highlights their consistent monthly payment, whereas the orange shows what they would have paid for that delivery had they not been on a plan.

Capped Price Protection Review

This graph shows a comparison of prices for a customer in Biddeford who had a capped price plan this past season. You can see the price they paid in blue, what our current price at the time of that delivery was in orange, and what Maine average prices were in green.

In summary, they never paid more than $2.999 per gallon, even when our regular price had reached $5.399 a gallon.
